Certifications

Welcome.
As we move into the twenty-first century and continue our quest for energy independence and energy efficiency many of us have one question: How do we go about it?
While many of you may be familiar with LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) a green building rating system which is the benchmark for national design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. The LEED program is administered by the U.S. Green Building Council and employs a third-party rating system that rates buidings as certified, silver, gold, or platinum depending on the level of energy efficiency and environmental protection that they achieve. There are several other systems in existence such as Green Globes which focuses primarily on residential construction but LEED is the benchmark.
There are several Florida builders on the West Coast who have built some amazing structures over the past year which will be the focus of the blog over the next week or so. In the meantime I encourage you to check out the website of the Florida Green Building Coalition. http://www.floridagreenbuilding.org/db/

This will be a blog dedicated to green construction within the state of Florida but will also seek to address issues outside the state which might have potential impacts within Florida moving into the future.
